Roget's Path to Consistent Profitability

By Dave Mabe

Out of the blue, about a month ago, I received a card in the mail.

It was from Roget, a trader who went through MabeKit Level 3 a few months ago.

I'm finally on your proverbial "path to confidence," booking consistent profits, and, most importantly, matching my strategies' backtests 99%. Thanks for your help and guidance.

The thank-you card had a poker chip taped to the inside.

Nice! We jumped on a call to hear more.

Here are some excerpts from our conversation (used with permission):

Dave:

How are things going with your strategies?

Roget:

That's really the most reassuring part right now: everything is tracking. These strategies that I have, I think, are fairly modest... but it's just like, I don't care as long as it's making money.

Dave:

What do you feel like was your turning point?

Roget:

I think it was when I finally sorted out all the stupid database issues and the future leak issues... I had some database issues with IQFeed, plus some bad ticks. Solving those issues was a major step in making sure everything was running smoothly.

Dave:

How did you get through those technical hurdles?

Roget:

I think just really sticking with it and just really kind of owning the issue. I had to get to a point where I built up some amount of confidence on the programming side.

Dave:

What do your strategies look like now?

Roget:

All these strategies, I call them stochastic strategies - it's not a shotgun strategy. It's a rifle strategy. I'm taking one stock and optimizing it using the Strategy Cruncher, which I think is a lot different than probably what most other people are doing. I just want to take this thing and drill down as deep as I can... I'm going to keep drilling down until I exhaust all these individual stocks that fit this particular profile. Automating the entries with the Trade Client creates the feedback loop.

Dave:

How are you managing your risk and confidence as you scale up your strategies?

Roget:

Today even, this was my second month of upping my capital allocation. We're tracking, so I'm going to keep inching it up a little bit, kind of month by month, assuming things continue to track.

Congrats, Roget, awesome to hear your process and hard work are paying off!

Thanks for sharing with the group, and thanks for making my day! :-)
